MS in Marriage & Family Therapy
My journey as a therapist began at an early age. I was frequently the person my friends would turn to with problems they were experiencing with relationships, school, and family. It wasn’t until I began to work at a school for children with severe emotional disturbances that my career path became clear to me. It was working with these teenagers that I began to see the importance of having a secure attachment with another – one that these children could not get at home due to severe neglect, abuse, or substance use by a family member. Many were also foster children, or wards of the court – they had no one to help guide them through the difficulties they faced. It was through helping these children that I realized that helping others to cope with and heal from past hurts was where my passion lay.
I graduated from San Diego State University’s Masters Program in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2008 and obtained specialty training in EFT from Dr. Lisa Palmer-Olsen, a nationally recognized relationship counselor and expert in EFT. Since then, I have worked to hone my ability to assist individuals and couples in navigating the difficulties they face. I also noticed a need for male therapists who work with couples, as many men are more comfortable seeing a male therapist for couples counseling. Currently, I provide individual counseling and couple’s counseling at my practice located in Mission Valley in San Diego.
I have clinical experience assisting individuals with a wide variety of presenting issues. I focus both on the cognitive and emotional impact of relational issues, men’s issues, trauma, and existential issues that many of us struggle with. I also have a special passion for working with men and men’s issues. As a male therapist in San Diego, I feel I have a special ability to connect with and understand the issues that many men experience in their relationships and personal lives.
